Our Story — A Tradition Of Innovation
The Wood Herron & Evans legacy in intellectual property law began in 1868, when Colonel Edmund Wood first opened his firm in Cincinnati, Ohio. The economy was bouncing back after the Civil War, and innovation was booming. Wood paved the way in this area of law by acquiring patents for everything from farming equipment and machine tools to new inventions and modes of transportation.
After being joined by his son William Wood, the Woods continued to gain experience working in the chemical, machine tool, graphics and electrical industries as these fields emerged through the turn of the century.
By the 1930s, grandson Edmund P. Wood was now leading the firm and brought in partners Truman Herron and Edward Evans to accelerate the firm’s growth. Wood Herron & Evans moved its headquarters to Cincinnati’s lavish new Art Deco skyscraper, the Carew Tower. In 2022, after eight decades in Carew Tower, the firm moved to its new headquarter location at the top of Center at 600 Vine, just two blocks north of its former location.
An Emerging Leader In Intellectual Property
As the intellectual property landscape continued to change, the Firm also evolved, proving itself as an emerging leader in intellectual property law services not only on a regional level, but also nationally and internationally.
In 2010, the Firm experienced significant growth by the incorporation of an established Cincinnati-based publishing and media practice. This addition brought in new expertise in the fields of advertising, publishing, media, entertainment, licensing and privacy/data security.
Our capabilities continue to expand and evolve to meet the world’s ever-changing and new technologies. This allows the firm to stay true to our roots as an innovator and leader in intellectual property law.
