CINCINNATI — Wood Herron & Evans LLP is pleased to announce that Robert (“Bob”) Cassity has joined the firm as Senior Counsel, bringing nearly 20 years of intellectual property experience across private practice and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Cassity focuses his practice on patent preparation and prosecution, intellectual property strategy, and emerging technologies, with significant experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, software, and computer-related inventions.
Prior to joining Wood Herron & Evans, Cassity served as a Patent Attorney and Quality Assurance Specialist with the USPTO, where he helped develop and deliver artificial intelligence subject matter eligibility policy and examples in response to a White House Executive Order. He also trained and managed patent examiners working in AI and quantum computing and served as a legal, practice, and procedure expert for software- and AI-related inventions.
“Bob’s combination of USPTO leadership, deep technical knowledge, and practical patent experience provides tremendous value to our clients,” said Randy Jackson, Executive Committee Member at Wood Herron & Evans. “As innovation increasingly intersects with AI and emerging technologies, his insight and perspective further strengthen our ability to deliver strategic, forward-looking counsel.”
Throughout his career, Cassity has advised clients ranging from startups and individual inventors to Fortune 100 companies on patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate and infringement analyses, portfolio development, licensing, and broader IP strategy. He also brings experience in intellectual property litigation and business counseling.
Cassity earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Salmon P. Chase College of Law and his B.S.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from Cedarville University, with a minor in mathematics. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and Kentucky and before the USPTO.
