  • Associate

With a foundation in chemistry and biology and hands-on patent experience, Kaitlyn Settergren brings a scientist’s curiosity and a lawyer’s precision to her work at Wood Herron & Evans. She partners with inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses to help transform complex technical concepts into protected intellectual property assets that support innovation and growth.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law and a member of the Ohio Bar, Kaitlyn gained early experience in patent law through the University of Cincinnati Patent & Trademark Clinic, where she conducted prior art searches, prepared patentability memoranda, and guided clients through filing provisional patent applications. That experience sparked her commitment to helping innovators understand the strategic value of IP protection from the very beginning of their journey.

Before joining Wood Herron & Evans, Kaitlyn served as a Law Clerk with Laufman & Napolitano and Spitz, The Employee’s Law Firm, sharpening her skills in legal research, document drafting, and litigation strategy. Earlier, she worked at the intersection of science and technology as a Chemistry Teaching Assistant at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and as a Biomedical Engineering Laboratory Assistant at the Roudebush VA Medical Center, where she supported 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering research.

Kaitlyn earned her B.S. in Chemistry with a Minor in Biology from IUPUI. Outside her practice, she remains dedicated to community engagement through her long-time volunteer work with the Feast of Plenty Food Drive in Greenfield, Indiana.
