On Sunday, February 9, The Carew Tower was alive with over 600 people including more than 90 first responders to climb the stairs at the American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb.

Team WH&E had 6 climbers. Colleen Jackson, Greg Ahrens, Sean Owens, Rick Daeschner, Chris Welch and Chip Brown each climbed 45 flights of stairs, or 804 steps, to the top of the Carew Tower, completing the climb with times that ranged from 8 minutes to 15 minutes. Team WH&E finished 12th out of the 39 teams participating in the climb.

More importantly, they raised $1555 in donations to the American Lung Association thanks to the generosity of those at the firm who sponsored the team.

The Fight For Air Climb is an annual event held at the Carew Tower in Cincinnati, OH.

The Fight For Air Climb is one of the American Lung Association’s signature fundraising events. Climbs are held in prominent skyscrapers, giving participants the opportunity to join with friends, family, and co-workers to climb to the top of the building. Over the last several years, Fight For Air Climb events have raised more than $53 million to support the mission of the American Lung Association, to fight lung disease. More than 26,000 participants from 44 Climb events across the country came together last year to raise more than $7.4 million.

The oldest climber this year was a 92 year old man who completed his climb in 30 minutes. The winner of the vertical mile (climbing the steps 10 consecutive times) finished this remarkable feat in 2 hours 17 minutes (12 minutes faster than 2nd place). 92 first responders did the climb in their full fire gear.
